Attractions In Chichester

Renovated in 2014, it is a Grade-II listed building with several cafes, bars and outdoor terraces. Also well worth a visit is Pallant House Gallery, set in the impressive combination of Queen Anne townhouse and contemporary extension. This houses a number of collections, including work by Peter Blake, Lucian Freud, Ben Nicholson and many more modern British artists.

Places To Visit Outside Chichester

The region around Chichester is home to many charming historic houses and gardens that can be easily got to by car. These include Parham House and Gardens, a well-loved family home dating from 1577, which is set in a scenic deer park with stunning pleasure grounds and formal gardens, together with art, antiquities and textiles on display in the house. Petworth House is a grand National Trust-owned property, home to an incredible art gallery and lavishly appointed rooms, and has many acres of grounds to explore.

Historic Arundel with its castle is also nearby. Arundel Castle is one of the country’s largest inhabited castles; set in 40 acres of grounds with a host of impressive features, it is most famous for the 30-foot tall motte which offers breath-taking panoramic views across the countryside.

Amberley Museum and Heritage Centre is a short drive from Arundel and a fascinating experience where visitors can take the narrow gauge railway, discover rolling stock, try out the many interactive exhibits and witness global communications. There are traditional craftspeople working at the museum and nature trails on which to discover wildlife at any time of year. Fishbourne Roman Palace and Gardens, a short distance to the west of Chichester, is also easily accessible and an intriguing archaeological site offering a unique visitor experience.

West Wittering Beach, of course, is one of the region’s main draws. Set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty at the entrance to Chichester Harbour, it is a wonderful place to spend the day, whether playing with bucket and spade or taking a scenic walk.
